To say that sports fashion
finally grew up wouldn’t be wrong. It’s fair to say that, in the past, plenty
of players—sometimes even entire sports teams—had a style that, at times, can
be described as ‘questionable’. Lest you forget, it wasn’t that long ago when
sportswear meant throwing on a daggy velour tracksuit. Years have gone by and
since then, the lines between runway fashion and sports fashion have become
blurry.
With today’s sportswear, the
athletic influences are no longer that apparent, paving the way for what could
be best described as luxurious. Jerseys with luxe fabrics, unexpected styling,
and a sexier feel provide the athletes and fashionistas of today with an
effortlessly elegant look.
Thanks to global sporting
events that crop up one after another, coupled with the ever-increasing number
of people with a growing desire to stay fit, sports fashion has, indeed,
evolved. Thus, fashion PR agencies and fashion magazines that proclaim the
fashion sense of the Hollywood elite can now be seen gushing about the outfit
and gear of Olympians, World Cuppers and the like. Fashion designers themselves
have started to incorporate the ‘sporty look’ into their lines to create the
coveted ‘sport luxe’ look.
One fashion designer who has
always championed the sporty look is Stella McCartney. Looking at her designs,
you can see how sports fashion has truly progressed and, possibly, where it’s
headed.
