Three of the Most Memorable PR Stunts

Consumers are a picky bunch, and it takes a lot to make them part with their hard-earned money. That’s why companies rely on innovative marketing techniques to get their attention and to convince them to try a product or service. Fortunately, PR companies have no shortage of creativity, and below are some of the most memorable stunts that PR firms have pulled off.

Virgin Atlantic
To give people a taste of their service, Virgin Atlantic turned a Manhattan park bench into a real-life advertisement for their airlines. Anyone who sat on the special red bench got the VIP treatment, with flight attendants serving them champagne and food, while an orchestra played classical music. There was even a live-action re-enactment of a prince-rescues-princess flick—and yes, there was a white steed in it.

Coca-Cola
For Valentine’s Day, Coca-Cola cooked up the perfect PR stunt: an invisible vending machine that only reveals itself to couples. Whenever a couple passes by, the vending machine—which sits behind a projection screen—lights up in dazzling display before asking the sweethearts’ names, which it then prints onto the cans.

Tattoo Artist Dex Moelker
Have you seen the YouTube video of a woman who had the profile pictures of 152 Facebook friends tattooed on her arm? With 3.7 million views to date, you’re hardly alone. It turns out that the video was a PR stunt for tattoo artist Dex Moelker, who used temporary inks that allow clients to ‘test out’ a tattoo before permanently having them.
