Press Releases are Not Dead

Given the proliferation of Internet content and the staggering speed at which consumers’ opinions can reach a vast number of people these days, some industry experts have started to ring the death knell for press releases, stating that this mode of promotion is on its way out. In fact, nothing could be farther from the truth. The fact that this type of document has held sway for nearly a century means that it won’t be easily dismissed, and news of its demise is just a great exaggeration.

The truth is, press releases as a channel of communication are alive and, well, thriving.

That said, the method does need to evolve with the changing times. The one-size-fits-all policy that many public relations firms used to practise in the past just won’t do anymore. Suffice it to say that the Internet has changed the dynamics of public relations immensely, and, with it, how press releases are used.

The marketing opportunities the Internet presents have given rise to new press release formats that further the interests of a particular audience, cause, or purpose. Business owners now have a wide array of press release types to choose from, including SEO-themed releases, press releases with a social media focus, and the good old traditional releases meant for journalists.

Feeling confused as to what types of press releases will work for your company? Not to worry. A consultation with a PR agency with a good track record will help point you in the right direction.
